Melody Research, Analysis, and Recording Project

Summary

This is my progression threw Hook Theory, my first melody to my favorite and my last.

My First HookTheory Melody

this is my first melody in hook theory randomly put together.

Notes from Howard Goodall’s Melody Video

Write your questions here…
Start and end on a dominate AKA like C and end on a C. dominate tonic add subdominant in-between makes the best sound. on 4 or 5 use a green note

Melody Composition Terms and Definitions

One of My Favorite Melodies

Married Life Youtube video

I like this song because UP was the first movie I went to the Drive in to watch with my Grandma. Its one of my favorite memories when I was younger. Plus this song has really good highs and lows emotionally. The Tonic note is F-major…. At the beginning of the song the melody repeats itself and is high spirited tone then slowly goes into a sadder slower melody.

My Second HookTheory Melody

I love how this melody brings you up and down in a rollercoaster like experience, ups and downs. Some peers said that they felt like they won a game of Mario Cart! Tension was raised in the fourth measure and again in the end on the sixth measure. The resolution for the tension was on the seventh and eighth measure when the melody is over.

What I Learned & Problems I Solved

In this lesson I learned how to make a decently good 8 chord melody using tonic, subtonic dominate ect. In the beginning I had no idea how to make a melody and when about halfway threw I got a nice starter and stuck with it to the end.

Audio Recording Sound Safari

  • Sound Wave
    • A vibrational disturbance that involves the mechanical motion of molecules transmitting energy from one place to another.
  • Compression
    • Reducing a signal’s output level in relation to its input level to reduce dynamic range.
  • Frequency
    • The # of times per second that a sound source vibrates, is expressed in hertz (Hz).
  • Hertz
    • Unit of measurement of frequency; numerically equal to cycles per second (cps).
  • Infrasonic
    • The range below the frequencies is audible to human hearing.
  • Ultrasonic
    • The range above the frequencies of human hearing.
  • Pitch
    • The subjective perception of frequency – the highness or lowness of a sound.
  • Fundamental
    • The lowest frequency a sound source can produce. In other words, it is also called the first harmonic or primary frequency which is the lowest, or basic, pitch of a musical instrument.
  • Sound Frequency Spectrum
    • The range of frequencies audible to human hearing: about 20 to 20,000 Hz.
  • Octave
    • The interval between the two frequencies that have a tonal ratio of 2:1.
  • Bass
    • The low range of the audible frequency spectrum; is usually from 20 to 320 Hz.
  • Midrange
    • The part of the frequency spectrum to which humans are most sensitive; is the frequencies between roughly 320 Hz and 2,560 Hz.
  • Treble
    • The frequency range between roughly 5,120 Hz and 20,000 Hz, the highest two octaves audible to human hearing in the sound frequency spectrum.
  • Equalization
    • A signal-processing device that can boost, attenuate, or shelve frequencies in a sound source or sound system.
  • Amplitude
    • The magnitude of a sound wave or an electric signal is measured in decibels.
  • Decibel (dB)
    • A relative and dimensionless unit to measure the ratio of two quantities.
  • Wavelength
    • Distance between two peaks of a wave
  • Velocity
    • Speed in a given direction
  • Harmonic
    • Is a multiple of the fundamental frequency
  • Phase
    • Factor in the interaction of one wave with another, either acoustically or electronically

SUMMARY: In this activity we used one microphone and used it in three different areas and different ways to see what the difference in sound is. One was recorded far away, one of a guitar and one being used normally. Audio for each can be found under the images.

What I Learned & Problems I Solved

I learned that different areas and sounds can make a major difference in the quality and noise level.

March 2022 SMART Goal Production Project

SUMMARY

this month im Re-Learning the piano by playing one of my all time favorite Christmas songs!

Intention (SMART Goal)

By April 15, 2022 as apart of my School of Rock Class i will learn to play Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (again) and i will use this tutorial How to play Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and it will help relearn my muscle memory on the piano. This goal is Possible because I learned Rudolph when I was around 12 and still can play it with minor mess ups. Im setting this goal now to challenge myself to a “new” skill that will help me broaden my skills book! The plan is to be a “master” at Rudolph by the END of the month.
